In class today we where dealing with face book articles and reading them and discussing them in class. These articles most defiantly sparked my interest because it talked about how what you put on face book and other socialising networks in general can effect more than you think. Not only can it affect others out look on you but your job as well. When i started reading this I could not hel[p but to ask my self if this way of judging people is bad or good? Could this be a good thing or a bad thing? And could something of this nature effect me in the future?
One of the things that they go off of when looking you up o face book is some of the pictures you have on there and also some of what you say and write on your profiles. Pictures such as parting and drinking are one of the main things that could set you on the wrong road to the job you are trying to get or keeping the position or job you already have. The articles talked about how the things you put on the Internet should not effect your job and i completely agree with this side of the article. The way i look at it is that when you have a good job and your doing well, your boss is not going to look at your myspace or face book page and say, "Oh last weekend you volunteered at the hospital and you should get a raise."No, they would only go to these socialising networks to find bad stuff the person they are looking up and i think that is so wrong.
If you can punish someone for something they put on there myspace, then it should work the other way around and people that have good myspaces should be rewarded. What really gets to me about this new era of using social net workings dealing with jobs and school and effecting peoples lives is that they could be making a huge mistake and letting go good people and the ones that are really Now this really gets to me because if a student has a good grade point average and meets the requirements he should not have to be declined from attending a college or university are young and even the perfect little angel student might post something that a college dean might find offensive but to a young adult may not. And just because there difference in age and time is different it will effect the student from getting into college?
I understand there view on this subject and can see how this could be a good thing. On the other hand I also think that if they are going to have bad consequences then they should have a just as equal good consequence. Social networks such as myspace and casebook are very popular today and when i read these articles it seems like the only people safe from this sort of thing would be people who do not have a myspace or face book and the people who work for those social networks. I mean i'm sure theres get checked as well but comparing them to some of the other things that you might find on some peoples pages might just make there's look like nothing.
I have a feeling that this issue is far from being over and that more about using these social networks to judge people and student will have it's up and downs in the

#16 reflection on Pandora and LastFm

The major thing about coming to school for me would be that I know im going to be learning new things that could benifit me in the future. Today when i walked into english class i realized that we would be doing something a little bit different from the ushal. Which would be opening our text books and following allong with the presentation on which ever team is presenting. Instead we took the class into the computer class room to log onto two different websites called Pandora and LastFm. Right away I assumed that these two websites where going to be related in English in some way and to my surprise they where the exact opposite.
The websites that Ms. Crawford showed us where related to music. As shocked as I was to hear about these new websites, I was even more excited to start the website and see what it is all about. As soon as I loged onto the website I can honnestly say that LastFm was complicated and a little bit confusing to do. I am not what some would call a computer genius but that the LastFm was more complicated than I expected it would be.
I then decided to log on to Pandora. Which in my opinion was a weird name to call a webite for music but I guess in it's own way it could be catchy. So I logged on to Pandora and atomaticly fell in love you could say. It was way more easier than LAstFm and in my opinion better all around. The first type of music that I typed in was classical music because it is my favorite type to listen to. I can honestlysay that I have not, not used Pandora since I was shown it that day in English class and having it to listen to while I write this blog makes it even better.

#15 reflection on writting experience

For my descriptive essay, we are required to go to the writing lab at least once for help on our paper. This came as no surprise to me considering that for every paper we do in this class has to be seen by the writing lab before it is turned in. Fortunately enough for me, I was seen by the last lady that helped me with my last paper. This to me was better because I already knew the way she worked and her style of fixing things on my papers.
We then proceeded with my paper about talking and explaining the blog and what was happening in it and what it was all about. We then discussed the timeline and she agreed that it was a major help in the essay. We then went on and fixed some of the stuff i had already written. Things such as making them longer, short, and putting more detail into the essay. Considering it was a descriptive essay, i figures the more details the better.
We then talked about the ending which I was defiantly having trouble on. I could not decide weather I should just end it by telling how the video ended or should i try to express how the video blog made me feel before, after, and during the video. Her advise about the ending was that I should tell the reader how the video blog made me feel.
During the whole time of the session i felt that it was very productive once again and that next time for my next assignment I want to try to get everything that they would tell me during the session so that way I know that I'm getting a lot out of not only my English class but the help they provide there as well.

Other people's blog's #14

When i sit in front of my computer and get on to blogger.com, I do not expect or think about what others will say or comment about my blogs. This is mainly because of the topics of my blogs and how I know that they are just for my English class. Today in class we went to the computer lab and where told that we would be looking at our fellow classmates blogs and not onllyreading it but commenting on there blogs as well. When I realized what I was. going to be doing I was a little nervous mainly because I was scarded my blogs would not make sence to who was reading it. When I write my blogs i sometimes ust write them to meet the legth of what Ms. Crawford sets out and others about how i really felt of what we did in class or mty feelings to a cerain topic. So then as i was reading fellow classmates blogs and commenting on them i realized that they must be feeling the same way I am about there own blogs because I have to amdmit that some did not makes sence or nd just where not at all interesting in anyway. Regarless I continued commenting and found that reading others blogs made me feel better about them reading mine about mine. In all i agree that the assignment was helpfuly, then again, when is there ever an assignment in class that isn't? =)

#13 Timeline in Class Assignment

Today in Class we would be taking our video blog to the next step and start our six paragraph paper that wil be typed and turned in the following monday. I seem to always find that starting a paper is the hardest part of it all mainly because I know I have so much to say and I want to make an empression on the reader and have them hooked so they want to read the rest of what I have wrote.
The assignment in class was that we would be starting the first part of our essays and making a timeline about the video blog. The main thing on starting this timeline is mainly breaking my video down into three sections at first. Those being the begginning, middle, and end. Right there I would have three paragraphs and only three left to write. Suddently, I could feel the weight liftting off my shoulders as I knew that the timeline was working and helping me figure out how to write my paper.
After we broke down the three main parts of the blog I would then go back and fill in the parts of the blog that came in between the three main parts. This was a little more chalenging and would take more ttime then the other three that where a breeze to write. As i watch the video blog over and over, countless times, i realized that i knew everything about it and that filling in the middle peices and completeling the six paragraph essay was already near the end and being finished.
The outline assignment that we did in class was very helpfull and I would recommend it to anyone that has a essay or paper due that requires a certainatnt amount of length to it because it does help and does increase the legth and help with the flow of the paper aswell.

Description about my Blog choice

Finding the right video blog for this assignment was not what I thought it would be. I thought that picking the blog would have been fairly simple because of all the verities that were out there. In fact my theory was wrong about it being easy and the simplest part of the whole assignment. This was mainly because I was torn between several blogs that where interesting and would make good topics to write about in my descriptive essay. I narrowed it down to three main blogs that met the length requirement that I was looking for and then blindly picked one by touching my computer.
Now that the hard part was over, sitting down and writing the blog was going to be fairly simple. I had made the assumption that having to write a six paragraph paper was going to be hard and take some time, but then again the opposite had happened to me. I had followed the timeline that we had done in class previously and just by doing the begging, middle and found myself writing way more than just six sentences into one paragraph. Not that this is necessary a bad thing to happen but one paragraph was looking in the form of one page length. I could already see my details coming into place and making my paper stronger and longer.
Writing the three main points being begging, middle, and end was a fairly easy task and when it came to all the parts in the middle it all seemed to be flowing in a way where I would have to talk about what was happening and then tie it into the next paragraph that was already written out. I found this helpful because it worked as a guideline to stay on track and not lose focus on what my paper was going to be about. In the end I think that my final paper will be successful and that I did indeed choose a good blog.

You Tube Reflection

From writing a letter, to writing an email, or from talking on the phone, to texting. Our way of communication through the years have changed and have also become more advanced. Back in the day when it use to take maybe three to five days for you to send a check for your billing utilities and now you can do it instantly through the computer. It has advanced in a way that we can easily go into a coffee shop and talk to another person in Japan if we really wanted to.
Our communication with each other had evolved and has become more advanced, and in my opinion for the better. One form of communication that is sweeping the world would be Video Blog. In other words Vlog. It is not simply people writing about who they are and certain topics but making a video and posting it on the Internet for anyone to see. This is considered a form of communication because others that watch your video can post comments about it and you can talk to them back as well. This new and advanced form of communication is in other words spreading like wildfire through the world and now it seems like you can not run into someone that has not watched, commented, or posted a video blog. The most popular site for this sort of thing would defiantly have to be You Tube. Here people post videos about what ever topic they want and the really good one could and have in the past get famous off of it. One example the the video talked about would be the hip hop and rap artist Solja Boi. His video started from posting his new song and dance on You Tube and then shot to being discovered and signed to a record label. This has happened countless times and only seems to be getting bigger.
The blog was informational about how the ways of communication is changing and how we will have to re-think allot of stuff, including ourselves. The video goes over how people are literally talking to a camera and how they have no clue who they are communicating to and are OK with it. Could this be a good thing for society?Could this new way of communication be good for us in the long run? Well so far in my eyes i do not see the harm in people expressing themselves or there opinions through video blogging. I think that the video blogging will only becoming more popular as the years go by and that this new form of communication gives options for different people that are not comfortablewith the regular meeting in person and talking on the phone style.

internet Dating=)

What comes to mind when you hear the word Internet? Could it be for information, myspace, facebook, emails? There are countless things that could come to mind with that one word. Now what comes to mind when you hear the word dating? For some it could mean love, romance, heartache, etc. Now put the two together and see what comes to mind when you hear the words "Internet dating"?
In this new day of age, it is safe to make the assumption that technology is the future. But is technology also the future for our love lives as well? It is understood that we use technology in everyday life, such as to go to work or school, and even when we work and attend school. Who's to say that we shouldn't use it towards our love lives? This new form of meeting people over the Internet and trying to find your significant other is something that is becoming more and more popular over the last ten, fifteen years and i do not see it slowing down anytime in the near future. In fact there are beginning to have more and more company's such as Eharmony and Match.com that are websites that help you find that one special person you are looking for. It is a little crazy to think that back in the day, before the Internet became popular, that people where communicating relationship wise in a complete different way and would have not even begin to think about some such as Internet dating. Of coarse the old fashioned way of meeting someone in person and talking to them to find out what there all about is still used today but even with that method we sometimes use emails and text messages to communicate. So in my opinion it is still a new form or relationship dating as well.
Could all this new ways of working, thinking, communicating, and now dating be good for us? In my opinion i think so. I think that using what ever resources that you think is best for yourself is never a bad thing. Because it is your life and you are in control of what you want for yourself. I think that everyone is different and that there is no wrong way to try to find that someone for yourself as long as you feel comfortable. For me i am more of the old fashioned way and like meeting people in person and talking and getting to know them. But in turn my best friend is a user of Internet dating and i support her choice because she is comfortable with it and feels that it is the option that will work best for her. This just goes to show that not only is there so many options on how to meet new people, but to connect to others on a whole new level, a relationship level.

REFLECTION on differences b/w fake email and your email etiquette essay

When we wrote our first fake email to a friend discussing a bad grade in one of our classes, it was fairly simple. This being because of the lack of rules that where put on the assignment. You could say that it had a little more freedom. With allot of freedom like that to write a paper, for me it is way easier and simple because i can write my thoughts down and not have to worry about following a format. For some people guidelines and a specific formats make it easier to write a paper but for me i think other wise. With the email etiquette essay, i find it extremely difficult to follow the specific format mainly because i have trouble with wanting to say what i want to say and not following the rules of the paper. As a personal problem, i have trouble following rules in general. This is probably the main reason behind why i find following the format so difficult. When we wrote to our fake friend about our bad grade and complained, it really just flowed off the top of my head and everything went pretty smooth. Dealing with the email etiquette essay, the rules of trying not to use "you" and "your" i found pretty challenging. Another thing that was a little less challenging but still had me a little caught up would be not to use contractions in our essay. I think that the big difference from the two assignments would have to be the restraints that where put on the two. One being more open and free, then the other being more formal and proper. Which would make sense because of how the two are different. One to be approaching your teacher and the other to a friend. I think that both assignments work very well into each other because we started off with an informal one then got harder with a formal one. I find both assignments helpful and something that i will definitely be using in the future.

SEPT. 21 class reflection

Today In class we brought our rough draft for our first paper due on Friday. We first started out getting into our groups so we could help each other with any difficulties we where having with it. Thankfully all of my team members had there rough drafts and where prepared and ready for suggestions and comments. We where to read the assignment out loud in front of our group members and then go back and fix any of the problems that we would come across. My group had allot to say about each email that was read, which is a good thing because i feel that a paper can always be improved and hearing other views and comments are always a good thing. When i read my paper in front of my group, they quickly suggested comments about how i have stirred off from the rules regarding this paper. Some of the rules that i was not following would be using the word you or your. me and my group broke down every sentence and corrected all the yous and yours that where in my email. We also corrected the other rule that i was braking allot with contractions. We again, broke down each sentence and fixed all the contractions that it contained. We did this exercise for all of our papers and found that it was well worth it. This style of correcting our papers was extremely different from the way we did in high school, which would be give your paper to one or two more people and have them make changes. To me this is a way better exercise and i also find it more helpful. The reason being is mainly because when you read your paper out loud you will find that some sentences don't make sense or do not flow as well as something else would. I think that this exercise that was done in class was more than helpful and has already effected my paper in a positive way.

Email Etiquette Reflection

Today in class we received our assignment which would involve us to write an email to one of our perfessors about changing the grade they gave for a better one. This is a first time thing for me mainly because in High school the grade you got was the grade you got. There really was no discusing your grade or trying to convince your teacher that you deserve better than what he or she gave you. Another big difference about writting this email would be that i haven't really experienced this situation yet so im sort of in a bine of making it up. I supose i could always use my imagination but having a real life experience would help me more in my opinion. I feel this way because i would get more into it because of the strong feelings i would have about the topic. Kind of along the lines of having to be in the mood. I think that going over the assigment in class was a great idea and help alot of us out. Not only did she just give us the paper and say go and tell us a due date like most teachers might do, but she broke it down by making all of us read it out loud and answer questions on what we where reading. Another big thing that happened would be the detail examples that she did for us. Braking it down into another format such as an angry boyfriend telling another guy to leave his girlfriend alone. This example was not only interesting and funny but it did in its own way brake down the assignment that we are about to due. Todays class was very helpful and i feel that this assignment is already starting off in a good path.

Articles- Al Gore: Should Schools Be wired to the internet-&& How to Bring Our Schools Out

When you think about schools and you think about the internet, you can offten find yourself saying that the two in a way tie into one another. Mainly because everything we do is revolved around using some sort of technology and can often seem like there is no other way to proceed with one with out the other. The article that Al talks about is all schools being wired to the internet. Could this be a good thing or a bad thing?

I mean eventually the student are going to encounter getting online and using the internet in some sort of way just because that is how our world works now. No more just pen and paper, but email addresses and the internet in general.

Some would say that technology in elementary schools would be too much, or exposing them at a young age to the internet would not be the smaetest choice to make. In my opinion, this sort of information could also be offered at home, so what would be the difference of having it in the schools through all ages.

I think that exposing this technology would help students that would later on grow up to have trouble with computers. in doing this might lessen the chances of students having to take computer classes in high school or even in college.

This could also help the student save money and help good writting habbits develop at a young age. The reason for saying this would mainly be because when your younger it is easier to learn something rather than when your older. another example of this would be learning how to swim or even, bigger drive a car.

Bringing the school's out and into the texhnology would really doesn't have a down side. Assuming that they stay focused and not trying to do anything in a bad way. which would come from good parenting and good influences through there school life and life in general.

Articles

While reading the article's, you cant help but think what is the message they are trying to get across to you. Some are advertising a new program that benefit college students and some that seem to be selling a product. One article in particular would be the new technology that Purdue University is starting this two thousand nine fall semester. This program is called "signals" and is for the main purpose to increase college students grades and over all way they approach a class. The way this program works is that as soon as the students log onto there accounts there will be the program kind of working like a stop light showing hoe the students are doing in there classes.
The basic colors, red, yellow and green are significant in there own way. The red is the worst. Meaning that the student is failing and could possibly lose credit for that class. The yellow is reserved for students that are not doing there best but also just getting by. This does not mean that the student is absolutly safe from failing but should take a little more effort before the light hits red. Which in turn would mean that they have hit the failing mark. The last and final color green. Reserved for students that are not only turning in the homework on time and scoring high on test in the classroom, but also with extra help. This along the lines of scheduled tutoring, login's when they check there updates for there classes and what they'll be doing in that class.
This system does not only tell the student what there grade or color they have in each subject, but it also gives the college student advice on what they can do to improve. It suggest resources that they should look into such as tutors and notes from there professors saying what can be done to improve. This new program has not yet reached SAC yet, but while reading the article i couldn't help but fell like they where making it seem like it should be in every college campus.
Another article that had a twist on the subject was "Txtng the gr8 db8". This talked about how technology is not only changing but could possibly be changing for the bad. Now that people have so many ways of talk to each other that it has beegan to affect the way we right. This along the lines of our grammar and also our english language as well. This article makes the argument that not only is texting effecting the way we right but also the way people are changing with social patterns. In my opinion, when we use writting it will imporve our overall writting and will not effect us in a bad way.

Reflecting on todays discussion, your group and upcoming assignments.

The begining of our first group assignment is already looking like a great one. We also have a new team member making six of us in all and everyone seems to be clicking automaticly. It's kind of on the line of all of us beening different like a magnet but opposites attracking and now excited to get the job done. We also received our agenda for the class and all the requirements that we will have to complete. Another thing we did was learn how to get on to the website and follow the agenda from there. On there we can also find the articles we will be having to read and discuss in front of class. For my team, "All Stars", our plan is to divide the articles up and make at least five questions about the article just in case the class doesn't have any questions for us when we present. The best part of having such a diverse team is to have different componets put together to form one great team like planetears from the cartoon Captin Planet. On Captain Planet team consits of children with different powers such as earth, wind, fire, and water to form one super team. For instance my team brings a lil bit of everything. Consisting of writer's, artist, and presenters. At first when we got the assignment it was a surprise because it was fast but the fact that my group took the challenge with open arms and no problems made me feel even more confident about my group and our work ethictics.

Fake E-Mail

Hey Jeremy how's college going for you so far? I got the pictures you sent me of the campus and it looks beautiful. A real old time feel, which is way different from anything down here in San Antonio. The weather up there looked real nice as well. Again, unlike San Antonio where it's hotter than the devil's kitchen, but it seems like its getting better, slowly. The only thing worse than the weather down here has got to be my accuplacer scores.

I wanted to take it again for the second time to see if I could score higher and get out of this remedial math class that I'm in, and still nothing. Right now I'm already taking it flex, which will make me only have the class for eight weeks instead of fifteen weeks. So i know what your thinking, it's not that bad, but what makes it difficult is that i know most of all the material that he's covering in class and it feels like a big waste of time for me to be in there when i could be getting another class done and over with. My student development class is teaching us about our strengths and weaknesses and i defiantly scored low when it came to study skills and test taking.

I'm trying my hardest not to get too bothered by all of this, but it's really a big deal for me to pass this accuplacer and start taking classes that are going to really count. You know how I am when I set a goal and focus on it. I want to reach it faster and do my best at it and i feel like this remedial class is holding me back,or at least slowing me down from becoming a nurse. The big thing that I'm going to do about the accuplacer is start taking practice test online. I did not know they had one of those and I know it will improve my test score a bunch. After all,it couldn't hurt it. I mean, if I showed you my scores, you would definitely agree with me.

I know that's its only the beginning of school and maybe I might be stressing this a little too much but it seems better to stress over it and get it done, than to not worry about it and forget to even take the test again. Hopefully I can send you another email in the near future talking about how i passed the accuplacer and am now that much closer to reaching the big picture which is being an RN. I hope everything is going good with you and the new school and I hope to hear from you soon.

My Writting Process

As you get older,you notice more and more things about yourself that you didnt notice then or didnt understand. The way you walk, talk, and do things are to your own personal style. Knowing that humans are creatures of habit, you might not notice some of all the little things you are constintly doing the same such as brushing your teeth. As creatures of habit, you will almost always find yourself starting in the same spot or ending in the same way you have been for a long period of time. Another process that you will find about yourself or maybe haven't noticed yet, is your writting process.

Your writting process is the way you prepare and proceed when you are about to write about something. There are countless of ways others may go about there writting process but mine consist of waiting to the last secound. It doesn't surprise me that I do this with writting, mainly because I do this with everything else I do. Such as waking up in the morning. Knowing that I have to leave at 7am, and also knowing it takes thirty min. to get ready, i'll wait till 6:30am exactly to start getting ready. I realise this about myself and accept it because i feel that under pressure i do my best.

With my writting process, i would have to say that the biggest thing for me, that I always do before getting started is that I seem to always have to leave the house, or go to the store and get somthing for either myself or my family members. Ofcoarse most the time the product I go get from the store isn't needed at the time and the place that I seem to be heading to isn't of any importance. But I see this as my way of getting out and doing something before i have to sit down for a long period of time and work. Im not sure why I always find myself doing it, but I figure that since I went out and did something, its time to hit the computer and get to work.

Knowing your writting process is very important because if you know how you approarch sertant things, you will at least try to do it so you dont find yourself in a bind and end up not doing what was most important in the first place. Not only is it important to know how your writting process is, but knowing how you do things in general or in your everyday life is important. Managing your time may sound like something easy but taking into account that there are certain things that might pop up or your own habit to percrastinate, will deffinatly throw your schedule off in some way. In short, knowing yourself and the way you are is important and will benefit you in the long run.

How you use technology in your world.

From the moment you wake up and even for some people when there sleeping, technology is being used. Wheather it be playing music as you sleep, to a matreses having some sort technology built right into it, to help you sleep more comtherble. When you wake up in the morning from an alarm clock or a cell phone, technology is being used. In short, technology is something hard to escape from. From the moment you wake up to the secound you go to sleep it is all around. Now days, it seems like everything today is either runed by computers or using technology in some sort of way. Something so simple as paper and pencil, we have replaced with a keyboard and a monitor. It is difficult to give an example of something that wouldn't involve using technology considering that we've been using it as far back to when the wheel was first invented. As time passes we have seen great inprovmentes in our technology and can only hope for it to get better.
